Nintendo’s latest Direct presentation unveiled the highly anticipated Donkey Kong Bananza, set to release exclusively for Switch 2 on July 17th. This 3D platformer introduces players to a thrilling gaming experience with a focus on destruction and exploration. Teaming up with a younger version of singer Pauline, gamers will journey through underground realms reminiscent of Nintendo’s imaginative take on Hollow Earth.
Donkey Kong’s abilities in Bananza include smashing up the environment, manipulating terrain as weapons, and transforming into various creatures through “banana transformations.” These powers, fueled by “bananergy,” allow DK to morph into creatures like ostriches for flight or zebras for lightning-fast sprints, even on water. The game also features a skill tree to unlock additional abilities and the ability to purchase new outfits for DK and Pauline, adding RPG elements to the classic platformer gameplay.
Adding to the excitement is a two-player cooperative mode where one player controls Pauline, along with GameShare support for multiplayer across different consoles using just one game copy. Moreover, players can enjoy a bonus mode that enables them to sculpt rocks using the Switch 2’s innovative mouse controls. Donkey Kong Bananza marks the franchise’s return to 3D platforming since the Nintendo 64 era, offering a fresh and immersive gaming experience that blends classic gameplay with modern twists.
